Dinwiddie County, Virginia

Dinwiddie County was formed on May 1, 1752 from Prince George County and named for Robert DinwiddieLieutenant Governor of Virginia, 1751-58. Located in southern Virginia, southwest of the City of Petersburg, Dinwiddie lies between two US Army forts, Fort Lee to the east and Fort Pickett to the west. As of 7/1/14, the population of the county was estimated to be 28,971.

Noted for its rich Civil War history, Dinwiddie County includes museums and attractions such as the Dinwiddie Court HouseFive Forks Battlefield Visitor Center,National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, Pamplin Historical Park and the Poplar Grove National Cemetery.  The county was also the site of 12 Civil War battles.
